Trip Itinerary Day 1: Departure from USA.Day 2: Arrival in Madrid. Check-in at the hotel and rest for a few hours. ArchitecturalMadrid bus tour-post office, plaza de Cibeles, Puerta de Alcalá, Parque del Buen Retiro,dinner near the Plaza de España, see the sunset at the temple of Debod. Overnight inMadrid
Day 3: Art Madrid: start with a visit to the Ermita de San Antonio de la Florida, thechapel decorated by the beautiful frescos of Francisco de Goya, one of Spain's foremostpainters. Then continue to the Paseo del Prado, the "avenue of art" to eat lunch, then seethe beautiful Palacio Royal. Free afternoon to tour the world famous Prado museum withextra time to either continue to the Reina Sofia Museum, which houses some of the worksof Spain's most famous artists such as Picasso's Guernica. Dinner in Madrid. Overnight inMadridDay 4: Late start. Start at the Puerta del Sol, the center of the city and once the site ofthe city walls. Continue on a leisurely stroll to the Plaza Mayor for lunch. Spend yourafternoon free for shopping/sightseeing in the Plaza and along Gran Via. Don't miss thestore where the queen, Reina Sofia buys her shoes! Take time to enjoy tapas, traditionalbar fare which will leave you refreshed and ready to enjoy an evening of Flamenco in oneof Madrid's most exciting Tablaos. Overnight in Madrid
Day 5: Travel south through the stunning sunflower fields of the central plains of Spain(yes, where the rain mainly falls). Arrival in Sevilla, the beautiful ancient capital ofAndalusia and the center of art, business, and culture of southern Spain. Dinner andovernight in Sevilla.Day 6: Spend the day in Sevilla visiting the sights of the city including the 15th centurymain Cathedral and the Alcázar, the moorish palace with it's incredibly intricatearchitecture and gorgeous gardens. Dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight in Sevilla.Day 7: Travel to Granada via the Costa del Sol. See the Rock of Gibraltar and if it's aclear day, spy the African coast in the distance! Stop in Marbella, playground for the richand famous to enjoy lunch and some time to look around. Continue on through the heart ofthe Costa del Sol and stop in the mountain town of Frigiliana for dinner before continuingon to Granada. Overnight in Granada.Day 8: Spend the day in Granada, home of the Alhambra, one of the most visited sites inall of Spain. See the city and tour the Alhambra with its mosaics, courtyards andfountains. Free time in the afternoon to take a hot bath in the 11th century Arab bathhouse, the Bañuelo, visit the Triunfo Gardens or spend the afternoon shopping andenjoying the beautiful scenery. Dinner and overnight in Granada.Day 9: Travel from Granada to Valencia. Eat lunch and enjoy the mixture of gothic andcontemporary architecture in the historic center of Valencia. Dinner en route to Barcelona.Overnight in Barcelona.
Day 10: Welcome to Barcelona, one of Spain's most distinctive and beautiful cities! Takea stroll down La Rambla, Barcelona's famous semi-pedestrian street with markets,mansions and a mosaic by Miró . Have lunch along the Rambla and enjoy people watchingin this most interesting area of the city. Overnight in Barcelona.Day 11: Gaudí day in Barcelona. Visit the Sagrada Familia church, as well as la Pedreraalso known as Casa Milá, both works by Antoni Gaudí, Barcelona's most famous son.Continue on to the Parc Güell where you can see more colorful and unusual buildings andstone structures. Also enjoy a sweeping view of the city from the park. Overnight inBarcelona.
Day 12: Late start. Visit the Picasso museum to admire an extensive chronology of hiswork. Eat lunch near the Magic Fountain, then spend the afternoon seeing more sights orrelaxing on the beach, or get in some last minute souvenir shopping.Day 13: Return home from Barcelona.
